An implant is a titanium replacement of a tooth root onto which your dentist builds a new tooth (crown). Implants can be single or multiple, and can replace either a front tooth (or several) or several back teeth. The success rate in non-smokers is more than 90% and there is very little or no pain involved. Below is a case of a front tooth replacement. The X Ray shows the implant which looks like a screw between two natural teeth.

To get the best result, the periodontist who places the implants always works closely with a restorative dentist or specialist in prosthetics who makes the crown on the implant.
